Hello everyone, We are looking for volunteers for the private NVIDIA GPU beta. Hosts must be approved before receiving GPU work. Current hardware compatibility - Candidates: GTX 750/750 Ti, GTX 900/10/16 and RTX 20/30/40/50 series, plus compatible Quadro, Tesla and TITAN models. We check the exact model, driver and runtime resources. Validated configurations β updated 22 October 2026 The following 40 GPU models have produced scientifically validated BOINC results in the configurations tested: - GT / GTX: GT 1030, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 980 Ti, GTX 1060 3GB, GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1080, GTX 1650 SUPER, GTX 1650 Ti, GTX 1660 SUPER, GTX 1660 Ti. - RTX 20: RTX 2080, RTX 2080 SUPER, RTX 2080 Ti. - RTX 30: RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090 Ti. - RTX 40: RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, RTX 4080, RTX 4090. - RTX 50: RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080. - Other NVIDIA models: MX350, TITAN V, T600, L4, Quadro M4000M, RTX A4000, RTX 2000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU. These are tested configurations, not a guarantee for every driver, operating system or card in the same family. Additional configurations remain under testing. A separate 48 KiB variant (2.73) is used for approved Maxwell/Pascal hosts and T600 cards. Successful results now include the older models listed above; existing RTX applications are unchanged. GTX 760/760 Ti, older architectures, AMD and Intel GPUs remain outside this beta. Requirements - 64-bit Windows 10/11: NVIDIA driver 528.33 or newer. - Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.35 or newer: NVIDIA driver 525.60.13 or newer. Your card may require a newer driver. No manual application installation or CUDA Toolkit is required; BOINC supplies the CUDA 12.8.1 application. After your host is approved 1. Enable NVIDIA GPU use in the correct project location: Default, Home, Work or School. 2. In BOINC, allow new tasks, make sure GPU computation is not suspended, then update the project. 3. The CPU-only task checkbox is not a general requirement for GPU work. Approved GPU-only clients are supported. The GPU application still reserves CPU resources for its own operation; separate CPU-tail tasks are routed only to an authorized CPU-enabled host. How the beta works The GPU processes a lot of tickets, then hands the last approximately 1% of difficult tickets to separate CPU tasks (or earlier, if the GPU stays idle for 90 seconds near the end). The server aims to keep another GPU lot ready. CPU work, future reservations and per-host limits remain bounded; uninterrupted delivery on every host is still being verified. Power consumption and runtime depend on the card and workload; 100% GPU activity does not necessarily mean full computational occupancy or maximum power. Want to participate? Reply with your BOINC username. Your card must belong to the candidate families above. Please wait for confirmation that your host has been enabled. This remains a beta: longer tasks, pauses and errors are possible. Thanks for helping us validate and improve it! Benjamin |

Do we need to have CPU and GPU selected for just these tasks? All GPU tasks require some CPU. The app can specify the ncpus required if it's always going to use more than 1 full thread. |

Good point, thanks mmonnin, I've noted it. Having to tick both CPU and GPU is a side effect of how the beta is set up, not a real requirement of the GPU app. I'll look into letting the GPU tasks go to a GPU-only client instance, with the app declaring the CPU it needs, but in a second step: right now I'm focused on making the GPU app stable, and that takes a lot of time. I'll post here when it changes. |

I got one. No shown progress for the first ~16-17 min so the ET ballooned way up. Then it jumped to 6-7% and ETA came down. Progressing atm. GPU load is 99% but power is like half of what it could be. WIn10 3070Ti Driver 535.98 Edit: I see it's set for 6 CPUs and 1 GPU. Even using process lasso to move CPU threads away from the GPU exe, it will only use 1 thread while other CPU cores are idle. Completed in 38 min. Hopefully it's doing a lot more boards than a CPU task. Is there a specific app version with our host name as the plan_class? I've never seen that done before. Nice |

RTX 4090 w/ 13770k Windows v11-- 2,536.21 GPU/ 3,678.75 CPU/ 43,912.73 POINTS That is the equivalent of 146 modern threads, which seems to be right in the Goldilocks zone, IMO. It is refreshing to see a new project being so good out of the gate. |

Well that's a lot better than my 4.98 points The rest of your tasks have been several minutes for 12 points. |

Not sure what those 20 short, 12pt tasks are, but they are CPU, not GPU. Perhaps they are the CPU threads associated with the one GPU task I have completed? But 20 x ~280 seconds is 2000 seconds longer than the reported 3600ish CPU seconds. |

There are some longer ones being tested. This is from my Titan V: https://boinc.eternityathome.org/eternity/result.php?resultid=3241595 |

Thanks everyone for the feedback! @mmonnin GPU-only clients now work, as you confirmed. Your failed small task has also been successfully rerun with the corrected version 2.68. The 4.98 credits came from the old provisional rate on that small task. New larger tasks use the updated rate; already-created tasks keep their original credit. @10esseeTony Yes, those short CPU tasks are the difficult tickets handed over by your GPU task. A batch of 8 CPU tickets earns about 12.36 credits. Their processing time is separate from the CPU time shown for the GPU task. That figure covers CPU work inside the GPU application, not these separate follow-up tasks. Thanks also for your positive feedback on the RTX 4090! @Freewill Your larger 65,552-ticket task has now validated successfully. Thanks for helping test the larger workloads! @Landjunge Your RTX 3070 results have now validated under both Linux and Windows. Thank you! @Hans Sveen Your RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 4080 are enabled, with work prepared. If nothing arrives, please check NVIDIA use in the correct project location, allow new tasks, make sure GPU computation is not suspended, then update the project. Current limitation I am still improving work distribution: some GPUs can wait for another task because of the serverβs CPU-tail backlog limits. Successful calculations do not yet mean uninterrupted GPU work everywhere. |

Hi! My first GPU test unit( https://boinc.eternityathome.org/eternity/workunit.php?wuid=3198564 ) is compIeted! It ran for about 40 min. without any trouble, progressbar working as expected using 6 cpus and the Nvidia 4080 π And the Nvidia 3080 Ti used about 1 hour finishing this unit: https://boinc.eternityathome.org/eternity/workunit.php?wuid=3198567 Very promising start! My current task has been running for 9hr10 and it seems to be stuck at 99.14%. There is CPU load but zero GPU load. My task ran for around the same time as Tony's but credit was basically nothing. Is anything but a x90 GPU worth running here? CPU seems to be more efficient power wise. |

The Titan V seems to be pretty power efficient for these, running about 165 watts max on the big tasks like this one: https://boinc.eternityathome.org/eternity/result.php?resultid=3295283 |
